Can we overcome our past?
Katie Parker is about to get a new life—whether she wants one or not. With her mom in prison, and her father AWOL, Katie is sent to live with a squeaky-clean family who could have their own sitcom. She launches a full-scale plan to get sent back to the girls’ home when she finds herself in over her head...and heart. When Katie and her new "wrong crowd" get into significant trouble at school, she finds her punishment is restoring a historic theater with a crazy grandma who goes by the name of Mad Maxine. In the midst of her punishment, Katie uncovers family secrets that run deep, and realizes she's not the only one with a pain-filled past. Katie must decide if she'll continue her own family’s messed up legacy or embrace a new beginning in this place called In Between.

I , despite my age,85, I found the book enchanting. I liked the fast paced plot and modern dialogue. We often forget the importance of the teenage years. The development of talents, confidence and ethics during this time is so Important to getting a good start in life. The inclusion of the Christian Faith was nicely woven in the story.

It is a coming of age story, which shows the character growth of the protagonist. What I love are the wonderful foster parents, whom I hope to mimic, the crazy grandmother Maxine, who is a hard to forget specimen and the perfect friend material Frances Vega. Sprinkle a few other characters from the church and that is the perfect recipe for a beautiful story. I am eager to read more. Wait up Katie Parker, here I come! 😉

I don’t normally review anything, just read and keep going. But being new to “ebooks”, I hadn’t come across anything as well written as a “paper” book. This book blew me away. It wasn’t that the plot was amazing, although it was great and kept me hooked and spoke to me on a spiritual level as someone who struggles with knowing Christ. This story was so well written, so funny, so endearing that I found myself saying over and over, “This woman is a genius!”. The character Katie was so real and so comically teen, and a refreshing young adult character. You know she’s gone through a lot but she’s resilient and witty and learns so much in this story. I never buy ebooks, but will be buying all the ones in this series. Jenny Jones is a truly talented author and has become one of my all time favorites.
